Robbers Roost Trail
There are so many great trails to hike at Mt Charleston and Robbers Roost was no disappointment!
This is a moderate hike with a distance of 1.4 miles. It’s a short hike climbing up a narrow canyon to gorgeous limestone caves. The caves, according to local legend, were used by bandits as a place to hideout while raiding travelers on the Old Mormon Trail. Pinion pines are plentiful here, as well as other types of trees. If you’re fortunate enough, you may even get to see a few of the adorable ground squirrels and/or chipmunks that live on the mountain.
As with any activity outside, please be sure to bring enough water for the duration of your hike. It’s so easy to get dehydrated, so you definitely want to prepare in advance. The general rule for how much water to bring along with you when hiking is listed below:
- Adults: 2 cups (about 1/2 liter) of water for every hour of hiking
- Children: 1-2 cups of water for every hour of hiking
Enjoy your day and always remember to be a responsible hiker by, “pack out what you pack in”.
Every little bit helps =)
